Jesse and I are in NEW ZEALAND!! So. Exciting. Because New Zealand has the opposite seasons that we have in the US, we are able to do some research and development for the Ice Castles in the off season. The flight over was actually not as bad as I expected it to be. Jane was being her adorable self, saying hi and waving to everyone on the plane, and playing with Jesse.
First we flew from SLC to LAX, and then had an 8 hour layover. We ate lunch, got frozen yogurt, did a little souvenir shopping (like we really needed souvenirs from the airport, but whatever LOL!), and hung around. When we finally boarded the Air New Zealand plane, it was about 9 pm. The plane was MASSIVE! We got two sky couches, basically three seats that fold down into a bed, and it was SO great. Jane and I slept on one, and Jesse on the other. They fed us two meals, and they were actually pretty good! I really like cafeteria food for some reason, weird I know.
The flight went by pretty quick, and we landed in Auckland. This was the scariest part of the whole trip. I was so grateful Jesse was there with me and I wasn’t with Jane by myself, because I had NO CLUE what was going on. I was just following Jesse. It was pouring rain and we had to take a bus to where our next flight was. There were so many people trying to get on the bus that we didn’t even make it on the first bus. We also had a 4 suitcases that were well over 65 pounds, plus two carry ons, and Janes stroller and carseat, so needless to say it was a party.
Finally we made it on the bus, but missed our flight. So we had to wait in Auckland until the next plane. All three of us were super tired and REALLY needed a shower, Janes little polka dot shirt was stained with all sorts of stuff.
Finally we arrived in Queenstown, and rented our truck. I was seriously horrified at the left side of the road driving, but Jesse seriously drove like he had been doing it all his life. I was very impressed! I am probably just going to stay in the passenger seat the whole time we are here!
Our cute little house that we are staying in has the most beautiful view out the window. But I am going to be completely honest- nothing beats our view in Heber City! Not even New Zealand.
After getting settled in, and Jesse taking care of all of his work stuff, we finally went out and explored on Saturday! It was so much fun. Jesse said he was taking us somewhere and it was a surprise. We went to the Blue Pools, and then he drove us to the BEACH!!! I had just been telling him that I wanted to see the beach while we were here, and he totally surprised us and took us there. It was so fun! The Blue Pools hike was absolutely AMAZING!! The crazy thing was that every few miles, our scenery totally changed. One minute it looked like we were in Vermont in the fall, the next it looked like we were in a rainforest. Then the beach. I have never experienced anything like it.
